Building a High-Performing Learning Community
The Purpose of Our Core Competencies
The Core Competencies describe the expectations for all staff and students at Al Salam. They reflect our mission, culture and values, and outline the behaviours, attitudes, habits and mindsets that we aim to develop across our community.
The competencies are grouped into four key themes: Aspiration, Agency, Agility and Altitude. These themes help everyone understand what we believe in, what we expect, and how we work and learn together.
The Core Competencies serve several important purposes:
- A shared language for growth:
They give students and staff a common way to talk about development and behaviour. - Clear expectations for performance:
They guide feedback, reviews and conversations about strengths, improvement and contribution. - Alignment with our culture and strategy:
They set out the behaviours that support the direction of the school group and the community we want to build. - Support for self-reflection:
They help individuals think about their own practice, identify priorities and plan their development. - A guide for training:
They shape how we design internal training, coaching and professional learning across the organisation.
